Decoration Ideas with Glass Bottles
There are literally a million different ways to upcycle and repurpose glass bottles as decorations around the house, for your next party, or even your wedding. With years of experience in the packaging industry, we’ve seen our fair share of creative ideas and thought we’d share a few of our favorites with you.
1.Glass Bottles for Outdoor Lighting: We’ve seen DIYers and crafters use mason jars and glass bottles as outdoor lighting for years. One of our favorite ways is by adding citronella oil to the bottle, drilling a hole in the top of the lid, and stringing a wick through the top. Try clear and colored bottles for different effects. Other outdoor lighting ideas include adding string lights or tea candles to your glass bottles.
2.Glass Bottles as Terrariums: Technically speaking, a terrarium is an enclosed structure or area used for keeping plants for observation. When simulated on a smaller scale, terrariums are popular as decorations for both the home and office. To achieve a really great look, start by layering gravel in the bottom of your glass bottle, followed by a layer of dried moss, soil, and live moss. You’ll create a great statement piece, especially if you use a bottle with some architectural interest or curvature.
3.Glass Bottles as Centerpieces: We love the idea of using glass bottles of varying sizes and shapes in a cluster as a centerpiece. You can fill the bottom of the glass bottles with sand and add a candle, wrap them in burlap and a bow for use as flower vases, or paint them any color you desire.
4.Glass Bottles as Indoor Lighting: One of the biggest trends in lighting right now is the use of old glass bottles as hanging pendant lighting. This can be accomplished in many different ways, but the easiest is by using a Mason-style jar and drilling a hole in the top, which allows you to run the lighting cable through the top. You can hang these individually or as a cluster for a chandelier effect.
5.Glass Bottles as Kitchen Decorations: We’ve all seen old glass wine bottles repurposed as oil and vinegar sets or as dish detergent dispensers, but what about as unique storage containers? Collect glass bottles and paint their lids with chalkboard paint. The bottles make the perfect storage containers for a number of dry food goods and you can label and re-label until your heart's content.
6.Glass Bottles as Party Decorations: Another widely popular trend is having a “candy-station” at your wedding reception, birthday party or event. To achieve this look on a budget, take old candle holders and paint them white, silver (or any other color that matches your theme) and affix glass jars or bottles to the top. Use bottles and candleholders of different sizes to achieve a staggered look. Fill them with colorful candy and you’ve got a fantastic candy-bar for your next event!
7.Glass Bottles as Decorative Candleholders: Have a bunch of wine bottles that you don’t know what to do with? Love the label on your latest wine? Buy traditional taper candles and use the wine bottle as the holder, as the candle melts wax will drip down the side of the bottle creating a pretty visual. Continue to add candles over time and the wax will form a unique texture on the side of the bottle. Use different colors for a different effect.
